The meaning of the sentence?

You see, it's not so much the Grand Galloping Gala as it is the wondrous private gated garden that surrounds the dance.
Could I get you to tell me how I should interpret the red sentence? I can't understand the functions of "not so much" and "as"in particular. Thanks in advance!

Let me simplify and clarify it: it's not so much the Gala as it is the garden [that is interesting] = the Gala is interesting, but the garden is more interesting.
