The meaning of the bold sentence

I couldn't figure out why they use a large balloon to imply that He was so happy.

Harry scrambled to his feet, so happy he felt as though a large balloon was swelling inside him.

It suggests inhaling. I suppose we tend to inhale more deeply when we're happy. The lungs in this interpretation
