In a news transcript, (sic) is sometimes found after a proper noun such as a name. In this context, what does (sic) mean? And why (sic)?

[sic] is normally used in a quotation where a grammatical mistake has been made, but the quote is presented exactly how it was said/written. In essence [sic] shows that the publisher of the transcript etc. knows a mistake was made due to no fault of their own.
