The meaning of "reproduction rate"

In the dictionary, reproduction could mean having babies be it humans or animals. Nevertheless, I've never seen any articles in which use "reproduction" to express things related to humans. Therefore, I would be really grateful if someone could let me know whether the usage of "reproduction" in the following sentence is acceptable.

For example, research in demographics has proven that the reproduction rate is relatively higher among uneducated people.
