The meaning of “purge” in snorkeling mask

There is a website about snorkeling as follows :
http://www.tropicalsnorkeling.com/snorkel-mask.html

In the first picture, “snorkeling mask guide,” there is a word, “purge” under the “nose pocket.”

As far as I know, purge is used as noun to mean “the often violent and sudden removal of people” as in “brutal postwar purges,” or as verb “to become pure or clean,” as in “purge a country of an ethnic group.”

I am sure the term, “purge” in snorkeling mask is related with one of the meanings above.

Can you tell me which and why?

Thanks in advance.

Can you tell me which and why? If you read more (scroll down that page), you'll see that "purge" is an abbreviated way of saying "mask purge valve", described as follows: A purge valve is just a little flap valve in the bottom of the nose pocket. It allows you to hold your mask to your face and blow out lightly from your nose to purge your mask of any water that has entered.

Did you bother to read farther down the page, Stenka?—

...And a low volume mask is easier to purge water from. But the trade off is that generally you have less visibility in a low volume mask. I think that the issue with volume is more a diver issue than a snorkeler issue, and so I don't worry about it much.
