The meaning of populations

hi, there.

Could anyone please let me know the exact meaning of "populations"
?

When do you use pupulations? Is there another meaning other than multiple groups of people? Can I use it to describe individuals in a group?

It can also mean multiple groups of almost anything from bacteria to gorillas. It doesn't have to be people.
