The meaning of "Pass out" and "into"

Hi,
In below sentence, I can't understand the meaning of pass out ...and into together. The two, below, should be a phrase. May you please have a guidance?

NASA scientists who built Pioneer Ten knew it would pass out of our solar system and into the far reaches of space.
