the meaning of OCCASION
I'd like to ask a question about the meaning of the underlined 'occasions'.
"The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope." - John BuchanI have checked out LONGMAN Dictionary.

To me the meaning for 'occaions' suiting the sentence in question seems "a)" of #1, that is, happenings.
But I cannot rule out the possibility of 'occasions' meaning "b)" of #1, or #3.
I'm ceaselessly swaying between three meanings.
Can you help me out?
(And if you can, can you present me another example sentence that support your answer?)
Regards.
