The meaning of "for" as a conjunction

"For all his fame and celebration, William Shakespeare remains a mysterious figure with regards to personal history."


What does "for" here mean? Does it mean "despite"? I can't find any similar meaning to "despite" in any dictionary!

It means "in spite of".
