The meaning of a sentence

The following sentence comes from Word Smart II: How to Build a More Educated Vocabulary.

https://books.google.co.kr/books?id=dnJmFMJLqAcC&pg=PA25&dq=%22The+jury+awarded+ten+million+dollars+to+the+aggrieved+former+employees+of+the+convicted+embezzler%22&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjm6p2v26XJAhWkFqYKHeYNDCIQ6AEIGjAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

The jury awarded ten million dollars to the aggrieved former employees of the convicted embezzler.

I'm not sure the meaning of this sentence.
To me the sentence seems to mean the jury decided to give ten million dollars as compensation for the damage to the convicted embezzler who really was the embezzler.

Am I right?
