According to the online Collins (https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/maldives) this word is pronouinced VERY DIFFERENTLY in BrEng and AmEng. Moreover, the "American" pronunciation (a la the online Collins) is for some reason "ignored" by the online MW and other well attested dictionaries...
Must confess I am totally confused... If you could tell me how do you think most AmEng speakers pronounce "Maldives"?
