the limited edition bag

A throng of customers waited impatiently to buy the limited edition bag.

Does the phrase in bold make sense? If yes, what does it refer to? Thanks.

It's not really possible to say what type of bag the sentence is referring to. It could be a handbag. It might be a golf bag or some other type of bag.
