The legend/folklore of the White Snake

The Legend of the White Snake is a famous Chinese folk story.

Hi,

For me, "Legend" and "Folklore" are pretty much the same in meaning, but I'm not sure if they are interchangeable in the above to you. Thanks for your advice in advance.

and very often there is an element of truth to it, even though there would be no real proof. Folklore refers more to a set of traditions which are found within a particular group of people. So it could be said (as clarification) that the term FOLKLORE is more generic , whereas LEGEND is more specific .

A legend is a story which is normally told by older generations to younger ones...and very often there is an element of truth to it, even though there would be no real proof.
