the last two ones/ the two previous ones

Hi,
Can we use ''previous'' instead of ''last'?
like
"The last two cars I had were red''
Can we say ''the previous two cars...'' or ''the two previous cars...'' ?

Not really, though it seems even to me that it should work. " Nope. I mean, there's nothing wrong I can put my finger on, it just sounds strange.

  • I mean, there's nothing wrong I can put my finger on, it just sounds strange.
  • Maybe it's because "previous" does not carry the meaning "most recent".

Not really, though it seems even to me that it should work. Let's see: "The previous two cars I had were red." "The two previous cars I had were red." Nope. I mean, there's nothing wrong I can put my finger on, it just sounds strange. Maybe it's because "previous" does not carry the meaning "most recent".
