The last couple of months

"...there was undoubtedly a greater sense of adventure than during the last couple of months." (From a press article.)

Does the phrase "the last couple of months" mean literally "the last two months"?

Top answer

Well, yes and no. A couple usually means two. However, in this sense, we mean that it's less than a few, meaning "not many".

  • So, "a few months" would be about 3-4 or 3-5 months.
  • So I would say that "a couple of months" means 2-3 months.

It's usually used loosely to mean 'the last few months'.
