Vocabulary

the largest second vs. the second largest

I heard people say, "the largest second bedroom."

Shouldn't it be 'the second largest bedroom'?

Thanks,

To complicate matters, I think both are possible-- though they have different meanings.

"The largest second bedroom" could be said, or written, in a circumstance where 'second bedrooms' are being compared, for instance, between one house and another house.

"The second largest bedroom" would be used when comparing bedrooms within the same house.

Hi Dave,

I'm pretty sure they were comparing bedrooms within the same house.

It's very interesting to know there's such difference of the two phrases as you pointed out.

Thanks,
