The joy of doing something or the joy of something

Hello,

Is the below sentence nonsense?

It is claimed that adolescents are the happiest as they benefit from the joy of activities that they have not done before.

Please compare it with the below sentence:

It is claimed that adolescents are the happiest as they benefit from the joy of doing activities that they have not done before.

Is there any significant difference between two sentences in terms of meaning?

Thank you.

The two sentences mean essentially the same thing: "It's claimed that adolescents are the happiest group of all people because they're almost grown up, but they're still young and haven't done many things in life yet, and when they do try these new things, it will bring them the joy of experiencing something they've never done before."
