the jossstick has gone

Hi teachers,
Could you possibly help me with the following:

Can I say:"Put the fruits and foods on the ancestral altar as offerings , burn 03 incence sticks / josssticks and wait until the incence sticks /the josssticks have gone dead before taking the fruits and the foods down to invite your guests to eat them."

Thank you in advance

You could - but it is not a normal expression. The incense sticks have gone out would be a possible alternative.
