When one's referring to the internet that we use daily, in writing like "I can't get on to the internet."or "Do the internet search.", should the first letter of it "i" be capitalized or not?

Capital I is still preferred, but it is on its way out, I am sure. An on-line computing dictionary says "The Internet is the largest internet (with a small "i") in the world."
