Greetings. I'm currently rewatching old episodes of Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. (I also saw them when they were first broadcast on CBC in the late 80s/early 90s.) Two of the most common insults used by the characters on the show are "broomhead" (meaning "blockhead" or "moron") and "narbo" (meaning "square" or "uncool person"). Despite having grown up in the 80s watching a lot of Toronto-produced children's television, I don't recall ever hearing these insults used outside of the Degrassi series. Does anyone know if they were invented specifically for the show? If not, can anyone trace the etymologies? Regards, Tristan
