The inspiration/encouragement of her family

But, becoming a champion swimmer wasn't easy. She needed the help and inspiration of her family.

Hi,

Is the "inspiration" in the above equal to "encouragement?" If not, what are their differences to you? Thanks.

"Encouragement" is conscious and deliberate -- her family intended to encourage her. "Inspiration" is different -- maybe there was some circumstance in her family, some history of overcoming difficulty, that gave her inspiration, but it does not imply any intention on the part of the family. Without any more knowledge of the situation, I would guess that "encouragement" is more likely here.
