Grammar

the infinitive and the gerund

Hi,

What is the difference between the following sentences?

1. I didn’t want you to think I was some boring man.
2. I didn’t want you thinking I was some boring man.

#2 sounds like that "you" ended up thinking that way despite the efforts of "I", but I'm not sure...

Thank you!

Rino #2 sounds like that "you" ended up thinking that way despite the efforts of "I" I wouldn’t say that. To me, #2 connotes stronger objection.

Hi, Aspara Gus,

Thank you for your reply.
So, from this sentence, it is not clear how "you" are thinking of "I" now, right?

Regards,
Rino
