The indefinite article

Hi, teachers

A. ... and many members of the middle class still harboured deep anger over the economic losses that they had suffered during the great inflation.

B. There is wit and candour as well as sorrow, and a good, controlled anger, which never displays itself in censure or rancour.

Why in A. deep anger without the indefinite article, and in B. a good, controlled anger, with the indefinite article?

Thank you

It's really just the author's choice. Both sentences work with or without the indefinite article, and there is little difference in meaning.

The author (the person writing the sentence) can choose whether or not to use the article. This choice is a stylistic one and does not fundamentally affecting the meaning of the sentence.
