The Importance of the Second Amendment to our Nation...

The Second Amendment of the Constitution is very important to our nation. The Second Amendment states that we have the right to bear arms, which is very necessary especially in our country today. I believe that all people should have the right to bear their own arms in order to protect themselves.

For one thing, the majority of people in our country rely on the police to protect them. Well unfortunately the police cannot always get to you in time to protect you. This is why people need to be more dependent and carry firearms to ensure them of their own protection. It is often hard for a policeman to protect you especially if he has to drive to the scene and stop violence that may or may not be happening whenever he or she gets there. The need for this amendment is vital to the Constitution because without it our nation loses the right to protect themselves.

Secondly, I believe that those who carry guns should have a permit. Even people with permits should have restrictions though. They should not be allowed in bars, because if they happen to get drunk and start shooting people, the bar would be responsible. Another place where someone should not have a gun is at concerts or sports games. Beer is often served there and you never know when someone might sneak in any form of narcotic. I know that if a person has a gun or weapon for that matter more than likely will not volunteer to give it up, but we must make an extra effort to try and keep others safe. We must take that extra step to check anyone who is admitted into a bar, concert, or even a sports game.

However, firearms can be detrimental, especially since not all people use guns or any other type of firearm in the right way. There are many people who want to ban firearms and they have good reasons for this. Firearms are often misunderstood especially by those who want to ban them. They are being thought of as the weapon that kills people. That is not always a good referral to a gun because the person who does harm is the killer not their firearm. People who bear arms and use them in a bad way are able to get them at anytime. Firearms have a good purpose in our nation, but maybe we need to pay more attention to whom we sell them to.

The Second Amendment is an important source for our protection. While some believe police are here to protect us, we must strive to protect ourselves. Firearms can be harmful, but we must try to prevent armed citizens from doing violent crimes. In order to protect ourselves, it is our right to bear arms, but not to use these arms in a harmful manner.
