The Importance of a Character's Hair-Description

Let me ask you guys and gals something. Let's say a character in a novel is in that novel for no more than a chapter. How important do you think it is that their hair length and/or colour be described, versus not even mentioning their hair at all and leaving it up to the imagination of the reader?

Hi, Often, some details of a character are given, in order to make them unique, but it's the writer's choice. He/she certainly dos not have to describe every character's hair. That just sounds like a silly idea.
