The implied verb 'be'
The protagonist, Philip moved in with his uncle Mr. Carey, the Vicar of Blackstable after his mother's death.
He goes to the medical school St. Luke's in London.
He came across his ex-girlfriend Mildred on the West End, found her being a prostitute, and she and her baby moved in with him.

Mildred was not unkind to the little girl. She looked after her very well and once when she had a bad cold proved herself a devoted nurse; but the child bored her, and she spoke to her sharply when she bothered.

I'd like to know if "was" is implied before "bothered."
