Hi all

I am wondering if I should use the present or past tense when explaining an idea that was received in the past but is in itself true across time.

At the event, the idea that there is/was a high being in control was reassuring to me.

It makes no difference. The meaning will be taken as the same either way. I would use 'is' in this case, but that's just a personal preference.

It makes no difference. The meaning will be taken as the same either way.
