In 1980, the vegetarian adolescent's rate stood at under 200,000. Over the next five years, there was an upward tendency to 250,000 in 1985, followed by a slight decrease to 200,000 in 1995. At that point, there was another substantial rise in the number of adolescent vegetarians. By 2000, the numbers had reached a high of roughly 400,000 but then fell back before leveling off at about 300,000. The young vegetarians fluctuated in different 10 year and rapid ups and downs could be observed at the same time. The young vegetarians rate fluctuated around 250,000 from 2005 to 2015. From 2015 to 2020, that figure increased modestly to nearly 950,000 in 2020, which was the highest point of young vegetarians in the UK.
