Overall, it is clear that there was an upward trend in the sum of money used for buying books in four countries. It is also noticeable that Germany was by far the most popular spenders on books throughout the given period.

In 1995, the expenditure on books by Germans stood at 80 million dollars which was the highest while in Austria was the lowest, reaching 30 million dollars. The figures for money that people in France and Italy used for buying books were at 55 and 55 million dollars respectively. Thence, all expenses of books in four nations rose, with the most dramatic growth being seen in Germany and Austria.

Around 2001, the amount of money cost of books in Austria commenced soaring then overtaking that in Italy before 2003, whereas the total of money in Germany dropped by 5 million then it surged to 95 million by the end of the year 2005, remaining the largest figure. On the other hand, the spending on books in France, Austria, Italy were only around 72,21 and 61 million correspondingly.
