The graph below shows relative price changes for fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks between 1978 and 2009. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

A glance at the graph provided reaveals data about the change in prices in USA of three different food product groups between 1979 and 2009, and the overall trend through the consumer price index over this 30-year period.

As can be seen from the graph, it is clearly evident that prices increased for the three groups despite fluctuations. Only the price increase of fresh fruits and vegetables was exponentially higher than the rise in the comsumer-price index.

All three groups have the same starting level in 1979 at approximately 60. Over the period, the comsumer-price index went up steadily to over 200 in 2009. Although having the similar trend, prices of sugar and sweets and carbonated drinks were below the consumer-price index. In 2009, the number for suger and sweets was 200, a bit higher than that of carbonated drinks which was at 150.

After 1985, fresh fruits and vegetables had their prices increased steeply. The number finished at somewhere in the vicinity of 340 which was much higher than the general consumer-price index.
