The food which or that you like best

The relative pronoun "that" is more restrictive than "which."

Which one of the following sentences sounds more natural?

1. What is the food that you like best?
2. What is the food which you like best?

Top answer

#1 sounds more natural and I'd say that's the only correct option there because "that you like best" is the identifying clause.

Neither sound particularly natural to me. I would say "What food do you like the most".

Better yet: What is your favorite food? (or "favourite", if you prefer the British spelling of the word).
