Hi
Is this sentence completely natural (both written and spoken English)?
The fire was raging and the environment had become completely untenable.
Thanks,
Tom
The bold portion is correct but very formal. Consider eg no-one could enter the building.

Thanks, Clive.
If I am not mistaken it's the adjective untenable that's making the sentence very formal. What about these?
The fire was raging and the environment had become completely intolerable.
The fire was raging and the environment had become extremely suffocating.
