The few

can 'the few' never be the definite of 'a few'? Is it always the definite version of "few"?

Top answer

"The" is the definite article and "a/an" are indefinite. "The few" refers to a small, defined set of people out of a larger group. There were more than 400 in the freshman physics class in 2010.
