~the favorite place for ~

Shoulders are the favorite place for storing muscle tension.

(I saw a sentence like this in a book, but I am not quite sure it is exactly same sentence.Emotion: smile)

Could you explain the meaning of the sentence?

Thank you.

I understand this to mean something like "muscular tension tends to occur in the shoulder muscles". "favorite" and "storing" seem slightly odd words to use. The sentence makes it sound as if it's something you consciously choose to do.
