The expression "the time feels right"

Question

hello everybody!
I'd like to know something more about the expression "the time feels right".
I heard it while watching a video and I asked myself if it means that a particular moment is the right one to do something.. is it correct?

What about using it in the past? For example:
"I've waited for that moment for long, and finally the time felt right"

Could somenone help me?

I'm sure I've seen your question before. Have you already posted it here anonymously? Or have you already posted it on a different ESL site?

At any rate, I'd say you understand the meaning correctly. To use this phrase in the past tense, however, I'd say you need to get rid of the present perfect in the first half of your sentence:

"I waited for a long time, and finally the time felt right."
"I delayed telling him the bad news until the time felt right."

With the present perfect in the first half of the sentence:

"I've waited for a long time, and finally the time feels right."

That'll teach me to go and get a coffee - I've been beaten to the punch, it's all been said. Oh well. Just to reiterate what's already been said, that's correct, you've understood and interpreted it perfectly.

"I've waited for that moment for long, and finally the time felt right". Hmm. . .

I've is a contraction of 'I have' and therefore present tense. So change it to 'I had' and it becomes:

I'd waited for that moment so long, that finally the time felt right.

And with just a little tweak:

I'd waited for that moment so long, that when it finally came, the time felt right.

To be more concise it might read better as:

I'd waited so long for that moment, that when it finally came, the time had felt right.
