the excellent candidate

Hi,
I was wondering if on cover letter, does it make a difference or is it incorrect to say that," I am an excellent candidate for the position or I am the excellent candidate for the position?"

Thanks

clee62 I am an excellent candidate for the position That's fine. clee62 I am the excellent candidate for the position No, unless you want to use the superlative, which I do not recommend, as it is pompous and pretentious: I am the most excellent candidate for the position.

No, unless you want to use the superlative, which I do not recommend, as it is pompous and pretentious:
I am the most excellent candidate for the position.

i mistakenly wrote the wrong article in my follow up. do you think it is okay to use "the" in my follow up if I mentioned that i am an excellent in my cover letter?
