The exact meaning of ‘charge’

Charge has so many meanings that it’s hard to pinpoint the meaning of it.

The passage below is another example of the case to me. Can you give me a help?

When you're hot on the trail of delivering a message, the audience is busy absorbing it, and you're both moving at quite a pace. It is therefore invaluable for them to be given a pause in which to consider what you have just said. Not only for relief from the one-way charge but to be able to think on their own instead of running with you.

This is what I figure out. The meaning of charge in this context is ‘an act of running or rushing forward’ The word ‘running’ in the following give me this sense. But I’m not 100% sure.

I agree, but it is a rather oddly written passage.
