I think adding "none" at the end of the statement adds some strength to it, but what is the correct way to add it? There are so many ways that look OK:
1) The event had no effect on the matter. None.
2) The event had no effect on the matter: none.
3) The event had no effect on the matter, none.
4) The event had no effect on the matter--none.
5) The event had no effect on the matter (none).
