The electricity went/cut off,out,etc

Hello,
I usually hear people say "The power went out." If we use electricity instead, which verb do we have to use? Some of my friends from England say "The electric cut out." That's just them, though. Which verb sounds best "The electricity went out/went off/cut out/cut off"?

Thank you

The electricity was cut off. ' Power outages in Canada are common enough, especially due to winter. The electricity being 'cut off' sounds more as though it was planned--perhaps to accommodate renovations.

However, it doesn't sound half as natural as 'The power is out.' Power outages in Canada are common enough, especially due to winter. The electricity being 'cut off' sounds more as though it was planned--perhaps to accommodate renovations.

Power is the common term in the US.
The power went out.
There was a power outage in the area.
There was a blackout / brownout for several hours.

If I cut off the electricity, I mean that I turn off the breaker to the house or a circuit to do repairs on the wiring.

My electricity is cut off if I fail to pay the bill. It goes out/off, or there is a blackout if there is a severe storm

Gene93Some of my friends from England say "The electric cut out."
That should be electricity, not "electric". That's a common mistake.

It is a local dialect. Some people in the US also have the same speech pattern.
