The eighth letter of the alphabet

Apparently, Catholics in Northern Ireland call the letter "haitch" and Protestestants in the same region call it "aitch". How about you?

English is weird. My dictionary says: Aitch = the letter H written as a word. Wow. And what's "the letter N written as a word"? And the letter M? LOL, looks like you only have aiches in your language!

The form 'haitch' is standard in Irish English, but not Br or AmE. (Longman Pronunciation Dictionary)

Hi,

I was born in N. Ireland, and I don't recall hearing anyone say 'haitch'. Live and learn.

I was taught to say 'aitch' by my teacher when I was in Grade 1. That was many years ago. However, nowadays many people in Singapore, including most teachers and students, pronounce 'h' as 'haitch'.
