The Edge of the Brink

The Edge of the Brink
By Guy Delaney

I walked to the edge of the brink last night;
I looked I thought I saw a light.
I closed my eyes the light still shone;
By then I knew I was not alone.
Yes, I walked to the edge of the brink last night.

I walked to the edge of the brink last night;
I called my beloved’s name with delight.
I looked; I listened for a sound full blown;
My heart spoke softly, “It’s you I love and you alone.”
Yes, I walked to the edge of the brink last night.

I walked to the edge of the brink last night;
I turned to the left and then to the right.
I thought about God, about being alone;
Even about nothing in this world ever being your own.
Yes, I walked to the edge of the brink last night.

I walked to the edge of the brink last night;
My soul was struggling with all its might.
I reached for something I could not touch alone;
My reach was answered by the God I had known.
Yes, I walked to the edge of the brink last night;

I walked to the edge of the brink last night;
I remembered how sin had shielded the light.
Deep within me I knew that something was wrong;
My words turned to God and my sin was gone.
Yes, I walked to the edge of the brink last night.
