The dog was run down by a bus.

The dog was run down by a bus.

Hi,
Does the above mean "the dog was hit by a bus and fell down, badly injured" or "the dog was killed by a bus?" Thanks.

Hi Angliholic I'd say the two most common sentences would be these: - The dog was hit by a bus. - The dog was run over by a bus. You can add "and killed" or "and severely injured" to either one, as needed.

  • I'd say if you do not add anything, people will tend to assume that "and killed" was what the result was.
