The different meaning of go out with. Thanks

Dear all,
I know that go out with means have a romantic relationship with. My question is that but the phrase could simply mean a person is going to a place with another person. Just like the following dialogue. Thank you for your answer.

John: I am bored. Are you going to go out with me?
Mary: OK.
