The differences among supply source, the Mains and SUPPLY APPARATUS.

The apparatus are fed from a supply source other than the MAINS or from a SUPPLY APPARATUS, and which contain a LASER SYSTEM or produce an internal OPERATING VOLTAGE greater than 4000 V (peak), this standard applies as far as applicable.

The above words is from Standard UL6500 of US.. I can't catch the differences among " a supply source", " the MAINS" and " a SUPPLY APPRATUS".
I know the MAINS is fed from Electric Power Department of US.. It's the 110V in US.
BTW, can I use the word "catch" instead of "understand"? ^_^
