The difference between "will be to" and "will"

Hi there: could you explain the use of "will be to" expression in the following paragraph: " our first task will be to locate and to describe the most common ....". Can we replace "will be to" by "will"? ("our first task will locate and describe ...") if we can, what's the difference between the two expressions? thank you

It's not will be to. It's will be, the future of to be. The to goes with the next word to form an infinitive. You express a task with an infinitive. Put any of the beginnings below with any of the endings.

You can't use 'will' without another verb. The following verb can be "have", "take", "go", "be", "find", "know", .... Any verb in the dictionary!

will have, will take, will go, will be, will find, will know, ...
