The difference between these two sentences

Hi all,
Could someone please tell me what is the mistake in the second sentence?

"It shows characteristic practices of Mike as a reader, writer and teacher" (correct)

" It shows ( the) characteristic practices of Mike as a reader, writer and teacher."(incorrect)

Thanks

Anonymous Could someone please tell me what is the mistake in the second sentence? Eliminate the brackets around 'the' and it will be fine.

The word 'practices' is a bit awkward and unnatural here. I suggest eg habits.

Without 'the', it sounds like you mean some habits.
With 'the', it sounds like you mean all his habits.

I'd say
eg " It shows the characteristic habits of Mike as a reader, writer and teacher."

How can it show his habits as a reader?

Thanks Clive
let's concentrate on the Article THE. Why is't or is NOT wrong to use it in the second sentence? I got this sentence from a book written by a Phd person.

Thanks

It's correct grammar with 'the'.
It's correct grammar without 'the'.

But the two meanings differ.
