The Difference Between a Puma and a Cougar?

What is the difference between them? All I knew is that they are "spotless tigers", and panthers are the black ones. What's the physical difference between them?

The words puma, cougar, mountain lion, and catamount all mean the same thing: the large lion-like carnivore that inhabits North, South, and Central America. The word "panther" is usually reserved for leopards. And pumas never have that melanistic color mutation that leopards and jaguars sometimes have.
