The difference

Can someone explain the differences between:
1)It reminded me of how great that movie is.
2)It reminded me of how great that movie was.

Does number 2 means that that movie is no longer as great? Or there are other usages for it?

Top answer

#1 suggests that the speaker thinks the movie is still great. #2 tells us merely that the speaker thought the movie was great at some time in the past, presumably when s/he first saw it. We do not know what the speaker feels about the film now.
