The Departed

I loved this movie, so much so that I saw it twice this past weekend. I even watched Infernal Affairs (English title), the Hong Kong film upon which it is based.

The cast is simply excellent. I'm not a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but he gave a terrific performance. Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin stood out, and Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Vera Farmiga, Ray Winstone, and Martin Sheen also did great jobs with their characters.

The film is takes place in Boston, and centers around two moles working for and from the Massachusetts State Police and noted Irish mob boss, Frank Costello (Nicholson). One, Colin Sullivan (Damon), is a police detective secretly working as in informant for Costello. The other, Billy Costigan (DiCaprio), is an undercover police officer who succesful infiltrates Costello's criminal organization. The film is full of suspense, drama, plot twists, and surprising humor. Unless you're offended by violence or profane language, I would suggest seeing this movie as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for your review YC! Usually I'm the one who does the suggesting for picking a movie. So I have to make sure it is good or I face the music which goes on like forever.

  • There was this one time when I brought home an old Hitchcock movie (The Farmer's Wife) which turned out to be a comedy (I mistook it for a thriller) and the worst was, it turned out to be a silent movie made in 1928!!
  • The look on everyone's face was unforgettable!

The movie is very violent. It is the best Martin Scorsese movie that I've ever seen. Some brutal scenes were really making me chill. Some obscene dialogue were really making me laugh.

I've seen Infernal Affaris as well but I don't remember liking it too much. I really want to see this American adaptation sometime soon though! I wonder if it'll get nominated by the Academy Awards since it's been receiving so many rave critical reviews. It has a 93% rating on rottentomatoes, so that must mean something!

I thought Infernal Affairs was alright, but I saw it shortly after having seen The Departed, and there really is no comparison between the two. Scorsese's film takes much more times to really probe the psyche of the two moles (or "rats" as they're usually referred to in the film). I also felt that the supporting characters were much more well-developed and interesting in The De

I've been not offended by violence but I want not to get used to violence. please, someone correct my speech mistakes! I'
