the definition of noun forms

Hi, I know this sounds like a silly question, but it matters to me.

I would like to know the definitions of "nouns" and "noun forms." Let's say, for me, "book" is not a noun. It is a verb. "a book" or "books" is the noun.
But if someone said "book" is "a noun form" I think that's acceptable since if I look up "book" not "a book", dictionaries say, "verb and noun."

What are the proper definitions?
